Job Summary
The Sun Communications Suite delivers industry-leading email, calendaring and real-time collaboration functionality for service providers and large organizations worldwide. This suite includes the Messaging Server, Calendar Server, Instant Messaging, Connector for Microsoft Outlook, Synctool and Communications Express.
The Sustaining Engineering team is seeking a talented, creative, highly-motivated Software Engineer to develop and sustain Messaging Server and Calendar Server products.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
* Continually improve Messaging(Mail) Server and Calendar Server in response to customer escalated issues from the customer facing organizations or driven by reliability, availability and serviceability enhancements.
* Working closely with the Support Services and QA teams to improve product quality.
* Prepare and deliver training on the product, debugging techniques to other Sustaining/Service engineers.
* Design and develop debugging tools for use by Sustaining and Service engineers.
* Create and review knowledge assets.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Proven track record in developing applications and debugging complex software problems and bug-fix development experiences.
* Strong programming experience with C/C++ on UNIX systems
* Solaris experience is a plus
* Solid understanding of UNIX fundamentals, LDAP, HTTP, security, SSL
* Solid practical experience implementing client-server designs.
* Knowledge of source maintenance practices.
* Ability to work well independently as well as in a geographically dispersed team environment
* Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple outstanding tasks
* Good communication, documentation, and organizational skills required
* Typical numbers of years of relevant experience:7+ years
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
* Experience working with debuggers
* Experience with Mail standards and protocols(IMAP, POP, SMTP)
Marginal functions
* Ability to work well independently on a critical customer reported escalation.
* Ability to forge a strong working relationship with Development Engineering, QA, RE and Sun Services and provide quality solutions to customers.
